Marilyn Chief Executive Officer & Guardian of Order Marilyn's Story For many years, Marilyn was the undisputed matriarch of her Neighborhood Cats Network colony - wise, formidable, and just intimidating enough to keep the entire operation in line. Imagine a grandmother who has seen absolutely everything, remembers all of it, and isn’t afraid to bring it up at dinner…only in fur. From the roof of her favorite cat cabin - her chosen throne - Marilyn quietly supervised her kingdom. Nothing escaped her notice. Not the young cats testing boundaries, not the suspicious raccoons, and certainly not the humans who mistakenly believed they were “in charge.” Many cats arrived full of confidence, attempted to challenge her authority, and quickly reconsidered under the weight of Marilyn’s legendary glare. Her memory was equally impressive. Marilyn could recall who stepped on her tail in 2019, which cat tried to steal her lunch three winters ago, and exactly which human was late with breakfast last Tuesday at 7:42 a.m. Forgiveness was possible…but it generally required time, sincere remorse, and preferably snacks. For most of her life, Marilyn ruled at a respectful distance. Feeders knew her only as a queen who tolerated no intrusion. Then last year, something remarkable happened. Slowly - so slowly it almost felt impossible - Marilyn began greeting the car in the mornings. A cautious step forward. A gentle pet. Trust built moment by moment. Knowing her age, we began gently practicing lifting her, just in case she ever needed help. Then winter came. A brutal one. As temperatures plunged below zero, we feared Marilyn’s aging body wouldn’t survive the cold. With heavy hearts, we brought her inside, expecting protest from the colony’s longtime ruler. Instead, we found an old soul who had already laid down her armor. Marilyn slept deeply for days, as if finally allowing herself to rest after years of vigilance. A veterinary visit confirmed she was in good health, but likely 15 or 16 years old - a senior who was simply too tired for outdoor life. Today, Marilyn lives indoors with her longtime feeder, perfectly content to sit on her ottoman and watch the world through the window. When she’s awake, she seeks out laps and returns the affection with thunderous purrs. Marilyn’s story is why Neighborhood Cats Network does this work - because even the fiercest community cats, when willing, deserve the chance to grow old in warmth, safety, and love. Back

Meg Corbett Director Feline Health & Foster Programs With 37 years of dedicated nursing experience, Meg has spent her life caring for others with compassion, patience, and a deep commitment to community well-being. After six years of traveling as a nurse, she has now settled into the Pittsford community, a place where her love for service and connection continues to thrive. Today, that same spirit of care guides her passion for helping cats and animals in need. Her healthcare background shaped her gentle approach, her steady presence, and her unwavering dedication to supporting those who are vulnerable whether human or feline. Meg brings a unique blend of medical insight, empathy, and hands-on care to her work with rescue animals. Her devotion to community wellness now extends beyond people to include the cats she fosters, supports, and advocates for, ensuring they receive the safety, comfort, and second chances they deserve. These weatherproof shelters provide warmth, safety, and protection from wind, snow, and freezing rain—giving cats a secure place to rest and conserve energy when survival is hardest. When a local resident reached out after noticing cats huddled together during a brutal cold snap, we stepped in with winter cabins, spay and neuter support, and ongoing guidance. Those cats didn’t just make it through the season—they gained stability, care, and a future without endless cycles of homelessness. Stories like this happen every day, one neighborhood at a time. We are a volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to humane, effective solutions for community cats and kittens. Every spring arrived like a biological alarm clock I absolutely did not set. Hormones everywhere. Neighborhood toms popping out of bushes like unsolicited pop-up ads. Yowling. Posturing. Carrying on as if that was somehow charming. It was not charming, Gerald. You were never charming. And this eartip? Oh, this eartip announces to every cat within a four-block radius: She has been handled by professionals. She has been altered. She has been returned. And she is not accepting applications. It’s my Do Not Disturb sign. My Out of Office reply. My formal, notarized, laminated pink slip to the entire concept of reproductive spring fever. The wonderful humans at Neighborhood Cats Network trapped me, and yes, I was furious at the time. I filed several formal complaints via extended yowling—but they fixed me up, gave me this designer ear notch, and released me back into my territory like the sovereign ruler I clearly am. Now? I wake up every morning. I feel the spring breeze. I hear the birds. I stretch my magnificent spine and think: Ah. This is what peace feels like.
