  • Journey to Forever Foster & Adoption Pro | Neighborhood Cats Ne

Journey to Forever Foster & Adoption Program At Neighborhood Cats Network, most people know us for our work helping community cats survive and thrive. But there is another side of our mission that touches our hearts deeply: the kittens born in newly discovered colonies. Despite our best efforts to spay and neuter every cat as quickly as possible, sometimes litters arrive before we can intervene. When that happens, we don’t turn away. We watch closely, waiting patiently for the kittens to wean from their mother’s care. Then we carefully trap these fragile little lives and bring them into a safe and nurturing environment. Through gentle socialization, we help these kittens learn to trust humans and blossom into loving companions. Every day, we receive calls from desperate voices—people pleading for help for tiny, helpless kittens found alone in backyards, barns, or tucked under porches. These kittens are born into hardship, but they don’t have to stay there—not if we can reach them in time. We also come across friendly adult cats who have been abandoned and somehow find their way to us. These cats, too, are given a second chance at a safe, loving home through our program. The Journey to Forever Foster and Adoption Program exists to give all cats—whether tiny kittens or abandoned adults—a chance at the loving homes they deserve. From the moment they are rescued, through careful care, socialization, and veterinary attention, our foster families guide them on a journey toward a forever home. Each cat’s story is one of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of compassion, and every adoption is a celebration of a new beginning. Back

  • Cat Cabin Program | Neighborhood Cats Ne

Cat Cabin Program The Neighborhood Cats Network’s Cat Cabin Program provides community cats with safe, insulated, and weatherproof cabins along with reliable feeding stations. For those of you who have witnessed a Western New York winter, you know what is at stake. The cold doesn’t just nip – it lingers, burrows and breaks through even the thickest coats of fur. For community cats, surviving a single frigid night can mean curling into a tight ball under a porch, shivering through subzero winds. Surviving, in this sense, is not living - it’s merely enduring. Our cabins change that. Each one is aesthetically pleasing, built from years of refinement and experience, insulated for warmth and filled with clean straw to keep cats dry and safe. They transform a desperate fight for survival into a chance to thrive - to rest, to heal, to simply exist in comfort and safety. Strategically placed feeding stations ensure steady access to food and water, supporting their health and well-being. These cabins transform winter from a season of relentless survival into one that offers dignity, protection, and the simple comfort every living being deserves. They turn desperation into stability- and survival into the chance to truly thrive. For detailed building plans on how to construct one of our signature NCN cabins, please click on the PDF. • Simon | Neighborhood Cats Ne

Simon Chief Commander of the Abandoned Tire - Chief C.A.T. Simon's Story Meet Simon, a Neighborhood Cats Network community cat of refined tastes, quiet dignity… and one very specific piece of furniture: a tire. Some cats have heated beds. Some have couches. Simon has a tire. Out in the great outdoors, where community cats choose their furniture wisely, Simon has formed a deep and unwavering bond with a slightly worn, questionably balanced tire. It offers no warmth, no softness, and absolutely no logical reason for this level of devotion—yet Simon treats it like a luxury lounge reserved for distinguished guests. And by distinguished guests, we mean Simon. He doesn’t simply sit in the tire. He reclines. He poses. From the lofty rim of his rubber throne, Simon surveys the colony with the calm authority of a cat who knows he has chosen correctly. Birds are observed. Squirrels are judged. Humans are tolerated… from a respectful distance. Once discarded and forgotten, the tire has found its true purpose under Simon’s watchful eye, transformed into a symbol of comfort, power, and mild intimidation. It serves as his lookout, lounge, and personal observation deck, where he supervises the feeders and monitors suspicious leaves that move when no one is looking. Attempts to relocate the tire have been, well, … poorly received. Simon responds with immediate concern, followed by disbelief, followed by deep personal offense. There may be yelling. There will definitely be tail flicking. Why the tire? We may never know. Perhaps it offers the perfect height for dignified observation. Perhaps it smells faintly of adventure. Or perhaps Simon simply woke up one day, stepped inside it, and declared, “Yes. This. This is mine.” And honestly? That’s enough. So please respect the arrangement. Do not question the tire. Do not relocate the tire. Simply admire Simon in the tire—from an appropriate distance, of course. In the world of community cats, luxury is relative… and Simon, quite clearly, has already won. Back

  • Piper | Neighborhood Cats Ne

Piper Ambassador of the Tipped Ear Closed for Business: A Statement from Piper: Hi there. My name is Piper, and today I’d like to speak about something very personal. My left ear. Go ahead. Stare. That tiny notch? That exquisite little crescent? That, my friends, is my badge of FREEDOM. I wear my eartip the way a retired CEO wears a Rolex—subtle, expensive-looking, and stating I am no longer taking meetings. I am spayed, darling. Done. Finished. Closed for business. Retired from the kitten industry, effective immediately and retroactively forever. Do you have any idea what my life was like before? Any idea at all? Every spring arrived like a biological alarm clock I absolutely did not set. Hormones everywhere. Neighborhood toms popping out of bushes like unsolicited pop-up ads. Yowling. Posturing. Carrying on as if that was somehow charming. It was not charming, Gerald. You were never charming. And this eartip? Oh, this eartip announces to every cat within a four-block radius: She has been handled by professionals. She has been altered. She has been returned. And she is not accepting applications. It’s my Do Not Disturb sign. My Out of Office reply. My formal, notarized, laminated pink slip to the entire concept of reproductive spring fever. The wonderful humans at Neighborhood Cats Network trapped me, and yes, I was furious at the time. I filed several formal complaints via extended yowling—but they fixed me up, gave me this designer ear notch, and released me back into my territory like the sovereign ruler I clearly am. Now? I wake up every morning. I feel the spring breeze. I hear the birds. I stretch my magnificent spine and think: Ah. This is what peace feels like. So Gerald… kindly take your romantic ambitions elsewhere. This facility is closed and your application has been permanently denied… Back

  • Riley | Neighborhood Cats Ne

Riley Executive Director Spotlight Management Riley's Story Riley is a Siamese with a flair for drama and a doctorate in making sure everyone notices him. He doesn’t simply appear — he materializes at the exact moment you are carrying groceries, bending down to refill a bowl, or attempting to leave quietly. His arrival is announced with a voice that could double as a harbor foghorn and eyes so intense they seem capable of reading both your soul and your snack stash simultaneously. Conversation, in Riley’s opinion, should always involve him. Preferably loudly. If you fail to acknowledge him within the first three seconds of his performance, he will repeat the announcement at a slightly higher volume, just in case the entire neighborhood somehow missed it the first time. Subtlety has never been part of Riley’s personal brand. Clever, curious, and unapologetically theatrical, Riley patrols the colony like he’s constantly auditioning for the lead role in a very important production titled The Riley Show. He inspects bowls, supervises snack distribution, and pauses frequently to strike poses that suggest he expects admiration, occasional applause, and possibly a standing ovation from the nearby bushes. Sunbeams are not merely warm places to nap—they are stages, and Riley knows exactly how to occupy them like a seasoned performer. Despite the constant dramatics, Riley is also sharp as a tack. He has memorized feeding schedules, understands the unmistakable sound of a treat bag opening from impressive distances, and seems to know exactly which humans are most likely to give in to his demands. Strategy, after all, is a critical skill when you’re running a one-cat publicity campaign. Beneath the showmanship, however, lies a surprisingly affectionate soul—on Riley’s terms, naturally. When the spotlight fades and the audience shrinks to one quiet human and a late-afternoon sunbeam, he sometimes settles nearby with a softer voice and calmer presence, as if acknowledging that even a star occasionally enjoys a peaceful moment offstage. Riley proves that community cat life isn’t just about surviving. In his world, it’s about thriving with style, drama, impeccable timing, and an undeniable attitude that ensures nobody—absolutely nobody—ever forgets he was there. Back

  • Rosie | Neighborhood Cats Ne

Rosie Chief Welcome & Ankle Inspection Officer Rosie's Story It’s Rosie, and if you’re new here, she already knows. As the colony’s self-appointed greeter, Rosie treats her duties with utmost seriousness—if seriousness were measured in purrs, sidelong stares, and the occasional swat of a paw. She patrols the entrance like a velvet-wrapped security guard: circling ankles for inspection, sniffing shoes as though they might contain secrets, and delivering perfectly timed judgmental looks that could make a grown human reconsider their life choices. Visitors, volunteers, and even suspiciously moving leaves are all subject to Rosie’s rigorous approval process. Impress her, and you earn gentle nuzzles, a chirpy greeting, or maybe even a treat. Fail, and you’ll know it—her glare says, “Do better. Or at least bring snacks.” Equal parts charm, sass, and neighborhood diplomacy, Rosie runs her domain with the confidence of a tiny mayor whose office is a sunny patch of floor, her council is a row of sleeping cats, and her decisions are final. Fun fact: she sometimes schedules surprise “inspect-the-human” audits, just to keep everyone on their toes. In Rosie’s world, a properly greeted guest is a happy guest—but don’t think you’re getting a free pass. Back
